Background
I joined NTT DoCoMo in December 2004 and am
presently a project manager for the Audio and Transport team within
the Media Lab of DoCoMo Communications Labs, USA. Our team is
focused on a variety of topics spanning acoustic signal processing,
audio and speech coding, and the transport of multimedia.
I received a B.S.E. degree summa cum laude in Electrical Engineering
from Princeton University in 1991, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in
Electrical Engineering from Cornell University in 1993 and 1996,
respectively. My professional career started as an intern with AT&T
Bell Laboratories (Area 11) during the years 1993 to 1995. I then continued
full-time as a Member of Technical Staff in core research at Lucent
Technologies Bell Laboratories in 1996, moving to Agere Systems (a
spin-off of Lucent and Bell Labs) as Distinguished Member of Technical
Staff in 2000. In 2005 I left Agere and started at NTT DoCoMo.
My research interests have covered a range of areas including speech
and audio coding, detection theory, video coding, network simulation,
information theoretic aspects of vector quantization and feature
extraction, and transport issues including wireless MIMO and QoS
support in 802.11. I have also been involved in a variety of product
teams focused on video-teleconferencing, satellite audio broadcasting
(Sirius), Bluetooth audio, ITU-T coding standards and hardware
architectures for mobile multimedia platforms.
