Background

I was born in Ankara, Turkey in 1969. I received the BS degree in electrical engineering and the BS degree in physics from Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey in 1991, the MS degree in engineering and applied science from Yale University, New Haven, CT in 1992, and the PhD degree in electrical engineering from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1997.

From August 1992 to August 1995, I was a research assistant in the Image Formation and Processing Group at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. From August 1995 to August 1997, I was a research assistant at the Department of Electrical Engineering at Princeton University. From 1997 to 2001, I was an assistant professor with the Department of Electrical Engineering at Polytechnic University, Brooklyn, NY, where I remain a research assistant professor. From 2000 to 2004 I was with Epson Research and Development, Epson Palo Alto Laboratory, Palo Alto, CA. Since September 2004 I am with DoCoMo Communications Laboratories USA, Inc., Palo Alto, CA.

Professional Activities

  • I am an Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Image Processing.
  • I serve in the program/review committees of several conferences.
  • I review for many journals and funding agencies.
